Hi everyone,

I’m dealing with a recurring issue where most games on my PC cause this tiny stuttering effect, which is really annoying. Usually everything runs smoothly at around 60 FPS, but every 8 to 10 seconds I experience a brief pause—sometimes just half a second or less—where the game freezes, cuts, or stutters.

This problem appears in several titles: Call Of Duty: WWII, COD:MW 2019, Arkham Knight (though it seems to have had optimization issues before), Quake II (especially the old version with Yamagi patch), Far Cry 3 and 4. It’s less noticeable in COD: MW2 REmaster, but definitely not in FIFA 17 or Forza Horizon 4. On my setup—i5 13600K, RTX 2060 6GB, 32 GB RAM, games on SATA or NVMe SSDs—it’s not the configuration that’s the issue. The performance should be fine for games like Far Cry 3 (2012) or Quake 2 (around 1997).

I’ve experienced similar problems on an older PC before, which ran worse with GTX 560 than the newer one. Possibilities include an outdated monitor using DVI-D, or a slow optical mouse with low refresh rate. The new NVIDIA drivers might also be causing trouble with older games.

Now I have a modern monitor and mouse, but I’m still unsure what’s causing the issue. Should I try adjusting the NVIDIA panel settings, cap the frame rate in-game, or is there another fix I should try? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you moved an OS drive from another machine without reinstalling Windows?

No, I performed a fresh installation of the new system.

Verify CPU and GPU temperatures with MSI Afterburner.
Assess the condition of your storage devices using manufacturer-specific tools from the official support website.
What PSU model are you employing? Identify it by checking the label on the power supply unit.
Would you like to execute the userbenchmark test and receive a link to the results page?

I need to perform SSD and user benchmarks. The PSU is a ThermalTake TOUGHPOWER GF1 750W. CPU temps reach about 40°C during the most intense game, likely COD: MW 2019.

The issue could stem from another higher-priority activity.
Are you using any other applications while playing?
For example, Discord maybe?
Open Task Manager / Resource Monitor. Order by CPU usage.
Search for a task that activates at the same rate as the stutters.

This seems to be a common suggestion based on user feedback. Would this approach work for you?

High background usage detected. Verify the source. Otherwise, everything appears fine.

I believe I might have had Chrome active at the start of the test.
