In reality, it's not possible. You need to launch the game and play it while it's still available, otherwise... It doesn't work. They typically send you a product key via email.

I've never received a product key from them. On The House page, I just click Get It Now or something like that, and it gets saved to my library. For example, The Crusader was On The House. I just added it and didn't do anything with it. Sim City 2000 is now On The House - The Crusader remains in my library.
