Hey PC gamers! The classic Dead Space 1 is coming back with a brand new version. It looks like they are rebuilding everything from scratch using the Frostbite engine. Today, EA's Motive Studio told us when it will come out and showed off some new ways to play this sci-fi survival horror game. The remake goes on PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5 starting January 27th, 2023. Motive said they rebuilt the game from the ground up using EA's Frostbite engine. Their goal is to keep Visceral's original vision but upgrade the audio and visuals with better effects that make you feel more immersed in a new level of quality. Here is some new gameplay showing USG Ishimura's engine room. This scene has the dark mood from the original game plus all the cool new effects added for this remake. EA and Motive said that the remake won't come for old-gen consoles like PS4, Xbox One, or Switch. It will only be on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. I really loved playing Dead Space 1 back then; it was a great game in this franchise with creepy atmosphere and scary enemies. Can't wait to see how EA makes this remake though! It's still very different now, but if they had used Unreal or some other engine, maybe it would have been even better. IMO. Anyway, watch this video. The Motive team showed an early look at how the remake looks and feels when compared to the original. They put together props, tools, and environments in a level of polish that fits next-gen hardware. By combining effects like dynamic lighting with atmospheric VFX in full-HDR mode, Dead Space lets players face the scary tight corridors and shadowy hallways of USG Ishimura with amazing immersion for this beloved franchise. It's also exciting to see player reactions as we take them on this development journey," said Phillippe Ducharme, Senior Producer of Dead Space. "We are making great progress toward Alpha and are happy to announce that the game will launch in January next year. We can't wait for players, both old and new, to see how we've elevated the original experience in the remake to be just as impactful this generation."
I like how you listed PC games before the others, usually they are last. 👍 I'm surprised they already mentioned a release date because it takes so much time and effort to work with Frostbite. Maybe they will push it back though. Eventually they might show some more enemy fights, maybe this summer while other games are slow. Yeah, people always think the first game is the best for atmosphere and scares, but I prefer the second and third ones because the graphics were better, mouse support was much better, it was harder to play, and Zero G had free movement. Weapon crafting was also nice in all of them. The first one could be beaten with just an upgraded Plasma Cutter, so there was less decision making, which means less stress and a feeling that things are not so dangerous. I felt kinda overpowered with the first game by comparison. The second one seemed scarier to me because sometimes the lights went out and it was hard to tell where enemies were coming from. Even in Dead Space 3, the dungeons were spooky, especially the rooms at the end where you fight off waves of enemies. That said, I will always remember the chills I got when I first saw the Leapers in the original game; my heart would race then. I think what was probably best about the first game is how well it paced itself. There were many moments of silence where you could only hear Isaac's breath and heartbeat until all hell broke loose. That kind of suspense is very important for a good horror feeling.
Hey, thanks for saying that! I've always put PC first when it comes to gaming. In fact, no console has ever been my friend in my life; PCs have been my best buddy since I started playing after leaving my band mid-way through, lol. But seriously, the PC way is actually better than consoles. You can wait on a game longer there too, even though sometimes things get rushed depending on how busy the team is making it. Btw, DEAD SPACE 2 is pretty good and definitely polished, like that mouse support you talked about plus other stuff. DS2 is scary too, but I don't know if that's just me or if I'm wrong. First, it felt creepier because of how the level design and maps were done in the first one? I haven't played DS3 yet, so I can't talk about that game. But both the first two were spine-chilling horror experiences. The crafting weapons in DS2 is way better than DS1, sure. Back then, it was a bit easy to beat because I'm not really a hardcore gamer. Should I try DEAD SPACE 3 as well? I'll wait for STEAM's summer sale anyway. Is it too hard to beat? Some people on forums complain that DS3 feels more challenging than the old games. It seems like they just send waves of necromorphs at you!
Nice to see someone other than myself is an only ever on PC player. I didn't know you were in a band though, what instrument and type of music? That's a brutal industry to be successful in, and so many pitfalls to avoid. Yeah it could be pushed back, but it's also a bit encouraging that despite having forged on a fair bit with Frostbite, they're giving a specific release date. That could be a sign they have some Frostbite experts on hand, as they should, since EA owns DICE, whom built Frostbite. Yeah the first one might be a bit scarier on first playthrough, but mostly due to jump scares. The others are scarier combat wise, so it depends on difficulty mode and how well you do the weapon crafting. Definitely give Dead Space 3 a try. It was bashed mostly for it's faster pace and waves of enemies here and there, and also some of the dialog (maybe 10%) is trashy love triangle stuff. Even if you're good at weapon crafting, which is more elaborate in 3 than 2, you need to get to know where you'll encounter rushes of enemies and how to deal with them. There's a spot for instance shortly after you get to the planet where you have the option to sneak past Feeders, which is not that easy to do. I find it's easier to retreat to the previous room and just pop them in the head as they drop down from the vent though, plus you get tons of loot from them. To be honest, I didn't think I was going to like 3 at first, because the weapon crafting was a lot more complex, and I worried I wouldn't get the hang of it. After a bit of experimenting in the Weapon Crafting Arena though, a cool feature 3 has, I quickly figured out what weapons I wanted and how to craft them. And what even some avid players of DS3 don't know is collecting artifacts matters a ton, because once you get all of them, the best weapon upgrade circuits are unlocked. Once you get those, you're practically unstoppable. That said, there is still the fact that good weapon upgrade parts need to be scavenged for and found, some involving killing or evading enemies while doing so. The most memorable one for me being the part that allows you to make a Chain Gun, which is behind a panel you remove on part of a derelict ship you have to fly to in Zero G, and there are mines that fly toward you to avoid or shoot, and there are dart shooting Lurkers as well. There's also a part called the Electrocution Module that can be found in level 9 shortly after getting to the planet, which turns the Plasma Cutter into a powerful weapon that chain electrocutes numerous enemies at once. You have to know how to craft the Plasma Cutter into a Rivet Gun first though, then apply it. It's funny that for a while, I couldn't use it because I couldn't figure out how to craft it, but once I did, I almost got bored because it was too easy to kill waves of enemies, so I don't use it anymore. There are also valuable caches here and there to collect good stuff just before going to the planet, so I highly recommend getting them before heading to the planet. Whether you do the dungeons is up to you. They're definitely the most difficult parts, but they also yield the best rewards, like those high grade circuits. I know the game pretty well though, so if you need help scavenging, crafting, or even how to take on enemies, I can give you good advice. The good news is, of the 7 optional side missions (Dungeons), you really only need do Supply Depot and Disposal Services (the latter being one of the hardest). This will get you all the S.C.A.F. artifacts if you found all the others in easier areas, and the Electrocution Module as well. Once you get the first S.C.A.F. artifact though, it becomes apparent that they are found by a certain glowing light. The circuits you get from collecting just these artifacts is easily enough to finish the game with. Here's a video I did a long time ago showing the Chain Gun/Shotgun weapon I use, with Acid Bath attachment and the parts and high grade circuits I used to make it. Before you get enough parts for it, the Plasma Cutter, Line Gun, or Shotgun can get you through.
Yeah, I played some metal bands before, mostly Thrash and Speed. In fact, I still jam in them, just now more for mixing and production than writing songs because I don't have enough time. Back then, I did double bass drums and rhythm guitar. That was my career back then. You know what? If you ask me honestly, I'm not a pro gamer like you or the veterans, lol. My gaming skills are pretty weak 😳😛 But I still play games casually, mostly FPS and some TPP/RPG titles. When I started on PC, I had to learn a lot. Anyway, that was off topic. Let's focus on DEAD SPACE instead. Thanks for sharing the DS3 weapon crafting video! I'll definitely try this game soon. Right now, I have a bunch of backlogs to clear. From what you said, scavenging looks like a big task here too. By the way, is that the tutorial or trial area for the Weapon Crafting Arena? Sounds cool. And thank goodness, the dungeons are optional too. But for scavenging, maybe I should try some of those first. Are artifacts found in the dungeons (though I guess high-grade circuits are more likely there)? I just hope weapon crafting isn't that complicated either. Thanks for your help! I will definitely use your advice and get hints if I'm stuck or if it's too hard to beat, haha. Cool. I'll keep this in mind. Btw, which weapon is the most powerful overall or the best at killing enemies? Which one have you used the most on this game? But enemies have different weak points, so maybe not all weapons will finish the job easily in my opinion.
The Chaingun/Shotgun combo with Acid Bath is my top pick for guns. That's the one I use most of the time. If you want, you can swap out the Acid Bath for a standard Electrocution Module and attach it to the Rivet Gun, which is a single-handed gun you build from a Plasma Cutter. Basically, in Dead Space, enemy weak spots are just any limb part. But shooting that same limb in the same spot helps if you want to cut it off fast. There are other weapons with strong knockback or even one-hit kills on the torso, but they come with downsides too. For example, the Force Gun is great at knocking enemies down, but it doesn't actually kill them. Some beams can do one hits in a single shot, but you have to aim very precisely. They often need charging up and reloading can take a while for some of them. I made a video back when showing off the Mjolnir. It looks good if you use it properly, but mostly about how they handle waves. The Weapon Crafting Arena isn't quite like the real game where things get tough in places. This video also shows how to open that menu section to access the crafting area. Among the one-hit weapons, the Mjolnir was the only one I tried using, but I got tired of charging it during waves. You risk getting swarmed by enemies when doing that. You really need an "insta-fire" weapon in this game to do well.
