the game console isn't allowing it to go overclocked...
Hi everybody!
I just got a new WC on my PC and now want to experiment with some overclocking...
my specs are:
i7 3770k
gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H (bios ver: F15q)
2x8g kingston hyperx fury 1866mhz
corsair H80i v2
evga gtx760sc 2gb gddr5
PS coolermaster extreme power plus 600w
now, my issue: I searched online for some basic settings to start the OC process. I changed the BIOS values and saved them, but they didn’t take effect. Then I checked in Windows—CPU is running with factory settings (verified via CPUID and screenshots), nothing has been overclocked so far... I’ve tried different configurations, even just adjusting the multiplier, but it still won’t work... Any advice?
Best regards!
Power supply is terrible. Please obtain a higher quality model. But this might not be the main reason for the problem.
The H80i is a fairly simple watercooler, it doesn't perform well for overclocking.
Regarding your BIOS updates not applying... Are you certain you saved your changes before exiting BIOS setup?
What is your CPU temperature when idle? During gaming/stress testing?
Hi weberdarren97, the updates were saved successfully! They appear in the bios after restarting, confirming they're stored.
Current temperatures:
IDLE: between 27-30 ºC
Prime95: high temperature test results 50-53 ºC
Update your BIOS. Ensure you have the latest version for your board.
If you're currently using the newest BIOS, simply flash a new one.
Well, hello! I'm here to refresh the status, just as Weberdarren97 mentioned. I checked yesterday and saw that the BIOS for the MB was updated (since 2013) to version F16h. I tried updating from a Q-flash, but it won't let me pick the BIOS from any drive—it just doesn't respond. Then I figured something was off with the actual BIOS, no doubt... I flashed from DOS and... wow! Now I can do it!
I used a small and quick overclock, didn’t check closely to 4.2ghz, and got about 10ºC extra on temperatures... (40 idle, 60 under load) but, as mentioned, I haven’t tried much... later I’ll attempt a deeper one.
