Pc: gigabyte 970a ds3p mobo
Fx6300 cpu
Gigabyte r7 260x 2gb oc
8gb 1866mhz ram
Evga 500w psu
Corsair h55 cooler
Bit fenix comrade
Etc
I recently attempted to overclock my FX6300 after installing a liquid cooler, but only reached 3.9 ghz. Temperatures were normal, but the system would crash when I exceeded this speed during stress tests or gameplay. I believe my 500w psu should be sufficient, yet the instability persists. I’m unsure if using an extension cord instead of direct wall connection affects performance. Why does it only stabilize at 3.9 ghz despite water cooling? Any advice would be greatly appreciated—I’m really frustrated now.

have you disabled c1e and cool'n'quiet, svm, hpc, apm and core c6 state ? are you doing cpu voltages yourself or have you set it to extreme auto? try lowering your ram speed to 1333 or 1600 that can help sometimes taking load off your memory controller
here's a video with your cpu and mobo but hes using 2400mhz ram so adjust accordingly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5V-h5oab1E
i hope you haven't lost the cpu lotto buddy

Not every CPU increases its speed in the same way. Certain FX6300 models can reach up to 4.5GHz, while others may not hit 3.6GHz. Overclocking isn't always reliable. Enjoy your current performance.

You participated in the silicon lottery but didn't come out on top. 3.9 isn't that bad after all.

I believe I only have cool, quiet, and disabled settings, and I’m not interacting with the voltages because I don’t feel confident. I’ll disable these now to check if it works. Thank you.

That works, let me know what you're able to achieve. I previously had an FX8320, so I can't give you specific overclocking advice regarding its voltage settings. Just check what others are using compared to your original voltages and avoid going near or above them. Setting your own voltages might be safer than letting the BIOS handle it. Good luck!

That works fine, let me know what you can achieve. I own an FX8320 before, so I can't give you precise overclocking advice regarding its voltage settings. Just compare what others are using versus your original voltages and avoid going beyond them. Setting your own voltages might be safer than letting the BIOS handle it. Good luck!

Nah didn't work. I'm using AMD Overdrive to auto-clock the CPU instead of doing it through the BIOS because it's simpler. I don't think it's related to the CPU itself, but another factor might be involved. Do you have enough power in your 500W PSU? Any other suggestions?

it's working well with your setup, running smoothly on that i5 4690k. the r9 390 should handle it, though the voltage might be limiting. keep an eye on the auto-clock results and verify the voltages using the CPU ID for a clearer picture.

Cheapo gamer says everything looks okay with your setup. You're running an i5 4690k at 4.6 GHz and a r9 390 on a stable 550W PSU. It might be the voltage limits you're hitting, but overclocking is just part of the process. Check your voltages using CPU ID to confirm. Sorry for the delayed reply. I've been using AMD Overdrive to boost performance, and right now it's around 1.2375V at 3.9GHz. I was told to increase the voltage but I don't want to risk damaging my CPU.
