MoBo: Asus M5a97 evo r2.0
CPU: Fx 8350
Previously, I had an FX 6300 and boosted it by adjusting the CPU ratio to 20.5 for a stable 4.1Ghz. But it would downclock to 1.4G/1.5Ghz when idle. Now I’m using the 8350 again, trying a ratio of 21 which brings it up to 4.2Ghz, but it doesn’t downclock at idle. When I leave the CPU ratio set to auto, it runs around 4.1Ghz under load and jumps to 4.2Ghz on a few cores due to turbo. It also drops to 1.4/1.5Ghz when idle. What’s going wrong?
All other configurations remain at their defaults. Cool n Quiet and C6 states are enabled by default.

FML! I switched the power mode to balanced and it now downclocks during idle. It's odd that the "Auto" option in BIOS is taking precedence over the high-performance settings, making the CPU downclock even when it shouldn't!

I own the LE version of that board and an 8350, so I think I have a starting point. Perhaps your auto/high perf EZ setting was accidentally enabling HPC mode?
