Hello,

I encountered an issue during gameplay with Fortnite. The game would unexpectedly freeze (with Discord remaining functional and squad communication continuing), followed by a buzzing sound and a PC shutdown after 3-8 seconds. Subsequently, the laptop would restart. This occurred sporadically – sometimes 3-4 times in a single day, other days without problems or just once.

* I experienced no difficulties playing Watch Dogs 2 at ultra settings (with 80-99% GPU and CPU usage, temperatures of approximately 65°C for the GPU and 72-79°C for the CPU), while Fortnite typically utilizes 30-50% GPU and CPU with temperatures around 49-52°C and 61-71°C respectively.
* The Event Viewer indicated kernel errors (41) and volmgr.sys errors (161), resulting in failed dump file creation due to a creation error.
* Temperatures were within acceptable ranges: GPU 49-52°C, CPU 61-71°C – consistent during freezing events.
* Memtest86 completed without any detected errors.
* Chkdsk and sfc scans were performed successfully.
* A CPU stress test yielded no issues.
* The Heaven benchmark (ultra/extreme settings) ran without problems.
* The issue persisted regardless of whether CPU or GPU undervolting was applied.
* HP hardware diagnostics passed successfully.
* A fresh Windows installation utilizing the Media Creation Tool, involving full disk formatting and partition deletion, was completed.

Laptop specifications:

HP OMEN 17-an005na
i7-7700hq
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070
16 GB RAM
SSD (Fortnite installed on this drive)
HDD
