I thought it would be good to get my old setup ready and clean it up for use as a Virtual Machine Destroyer. I noticed a hidden folder at C:\Windows and wondered what it does, especially since I never got Windows 10 even though I bought a PC three years ago.

W10 is the current version, removing the map likely won't halt the download. Consider checking for Windows updates, as they might provide more insight.

This folder is the Windows 10 installation directory, holding the boot and setup files for your version. It resembles the boot files from your USB Windows 7 installation. You're currently transferring the $Windows.~BT files to a USB drive to test booting and installing Windows 10 on another computer.

The changes were probably from a Windows 8.1 update. To confirm, open setup.exe and check its details.
