Direct to the issue, my RAM slots 1 and 2 on my new motherboard are defective. The listing shows a Q-LED indicator that stays on when something is wrong in those slots. After testing individual sticks—using a working pair from an old build and my current pair—I noticed only slots 3 and 4 work. When I insert a stick into either of those, the system boots fine but fails for the first two. It’s unclear if this is just a bad motherboard, a wiring issue to the CPU, or another problem. Even previously, the screen would freeze (can’t click mouse, can’t press keys) and required a BIOS restart. Notably, I don’t see any boot drive when my USB is connected to the top panel. So far, my thoughts on possible causes include loose screws, a faulty CMOS, bent CPU pins, or reseating the processor. The system model I have is ASUS Pro Art B660, with an i5-12600K CPU and Team T Force 2x8GB RAM. Thanks in advance for your help.

The disappearance of slots 1 and 2 reminds me of a dead memory channel. Possible causes include issues with the socket or CPU, a defective CPU, or a faulty motherboard. A problematic BIOS version could also be involved, though that seems unlikely. If updating the BIOS doesn't help and cleaning the contacts with isopropyl alcohol doesn't restore it, consider filing a return merchandise authorization.

It's best to avoid using anything beyond compressed air. I'd prefer to return the motherboard instead of risking damage to the socket pins and losing the chance for a return.

Thanks for the input. The socket pressure video is a bit challenging for me, but I understand the concept. I’ll conduct additional tests soon, avoid touching anything, and will return the MOBO or CPU if necessary. I’ll stay informed.

I would test a single stick using default settings and refresh the BIOS on the board. Avoid the "Beta" bios files if you can. After flashing, power down the device. While inserting the sticks into dual channel, briefly jump the CMOS connectors. If the issue persists, consider sending a return for repair unless reseating the CPU and cooler resolves it.
