In short I installed the latest Winamp version on Windows Server 2008 x64, which uses the same NT kernel 6.0 as Windows Vista. However, it reports needing Windows XP SP3 even though I have a newer OS. Is this normal? Does it identify the system only via the Windows string rather than the kernel version? Please see the attached image for more details.

It's strange since I'm using Chrome, Firefox, Steam, Office, and VLC, but they all function properly... okay?

In reality, someone told me a tale about why they didn’t name it "Windows 9." Back then, people would just look at the beginning of that string and see "Windows 9," leading to confusion with versions like 95 or 98. I’m not sure if that’s accurate, but it sounds like an interesting story. For this issue, I suggest using compatibility mode. If that doesn’t help, you might want to switch to a different program altogether—especially "AIMP." I think "Foobar2000" is popular with some users, though I haven’t tested it myself. It seems unlikely to be a good fit, but it could be worth trying if all else fails.

It seems like the issue lies with the installer, not Winamp itself. Try installing it on a different computer and then move the installed files there.
