Details of your setup: 120GB SSD, 30GB distributed to Ubuntu, 1TB HDD i7 8700, 8GB RAM GTX 1060 (EVGA single fan reference design edition). The issue is the error message about not being able to open system settings, and a search mentions problems with new drivers for NVIDIA 1060s. What steps should I take next?

To find your current driver version, you can check the system settings or use a compatibility tool. If you plan to remove and replace it, ensure you back up any important files first.

You don't have to remove the new driver to work with the built-in one, to prevent any mix-up I'll stick with it.

Currently, every time I open the software updater, it notifies me about a compatibility issue, while clicking settings shows I’m already running the official NVIDIA driver. Are you safe to proceed?

The update problem seems separate from crashes. Once stable, it’s resolved. If updates still fail even with good internet, run `sudo apt update` and share the results.
