Since constructing my PC, I’ve faced issues with my RAM and struggled to hit EXPO speeds. (see ) Over time, the RAM has remained steady at DDR5-5200 even though it’s labeled for DDR5-5600. Recently, BSODs have resurfaced at DDR5-5200. Currently, stable performance is limited to dual-channel DDR5-4800 or single-channel DDR5-5200. Any suggestions? UPDATE: After applying the latest BIOS (3222), I’ve managed consistent dual-channel DDR5-5200 operation. Edited March 12, 2025 by HippoPCBuilder

Consider the possibility the RAM is defective. Look for an upgraded option like 6000MT/sec or 6400MT/sec. Test it to confirm functionality. In the unlikely scenario, obtain it from a store that accepts returns.

This experience followed several weeks of searching for RAM kits across Amazon, trying different speeds and timings. Eventually, most of them were from the same maker, Kingston, but only one offered the 2x8GB configurations I needed (5600 and 6000). I’ve been using the 5600 kit since it seemed most reliable, though it did drop out for a couple of weeks. Recently I switched to lower speeds like 5200 and 4800. It seems the issue isn’t with my system but possibly with the RAM itself. If I can’t resolve this, I’ll look into other brands. I usually update my BIOS about two weeks after releases, and while the newest 5600 is still out of stock, testing it on a dual-channel 5200 with memtest86 shows no errors so far—so maybe it could work with the latest BIOS. I’m keen to get the fastest possible RAM, especially since my iGPU struggles with around 20 FPS drops in certain games.

I don’t feel very confident about 2x8GB configurations. I’d prefer a well-known 2x16GB 6000MT/sec CL30/32 kit from G.skill. I’ve tried several DDR5 kits from them and Corsair, so I’m around a dozen options now—ranging from 7600 to 9800X3D across different boards.

Certainly, the decision not to take that path stemmed from the higher expense (around £40 extra) and the reality that I don’t require 32GB of RAM. Would you believe a comparable 2x8GB configuration would perform better than this option?

I've updated with the latest BIOS and successfully reached a steady dual-channel DDR5-5200 performance.

DDR5 initially relied on 16GB DIMMs, though 8GB units were rare at launch, making compatibility uncertain. I prioritize performance over reliability, except when building servers that demand absolute consistency. Most RAM purchases are based on speed or cost-effectiveness. For an APU setup, 16GB is sufficient; 24GB would be ideal but doubling to 32GB is a steep price. If a 2x16GB DDR5 kit causes problems, check the CPU and socket for defects, just like with RAM slots.

Thanks for your guidance. I’m purchasing a Corsair DDR5-6000 CL30 2x16GB package. I’ll monitor the experience and try to persuade Kingston’s support team that my time spent buying memory and wasting effort justifies a refund, even though I’m not very confident about it.

I just verified and it turns out the Corsair RAM is already available in the QVL.
