Hello, here are the PC specifications you shared: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3MwTMC Windows 11 pro 64bit BIOS version: 7C56vAI. I recently bought a used EVGA 3090 XC1 and it often doesn’t boot or start Windows properly. The seller’s system ran smoothly with it. About every four tries, it would boot briefly and run for roughly 20 seconds before the screen went dark but the machine stayed on. Once it worked perfectly, it passed a full 3Dmark test under heavy load, then crashed after a restart. I’ve tried various fixes listed below, but nothing seems to resolve the problem. It appears the PCIe connection isn’t stable enough—changing the GPU position affects boot chances. The same issue shows up on another Gigabyte B450 DS3H board, not just one slot or motherboard. I don’t have much time in Windows before it crashes, so I can’t install drivers right away. The GPU error light appears when it fails to post, but none of the other GPU warning lights come on. I’ve also tested different PSUs, motherboards, RAM sticks, cables, and even disabled XMP settings. I’m trying my best with what I have. Please let me know if you need further guidance. I’d really appreciate any help.

Are you looking for another GPU to check the PC? Have you used the MB HDMI for testing? Updated on January 8, 2025 by thrasher_565

I only have one GPU left, a GTX 1030 that has worked fine (though I only tried to connect it to the BIOS). I observed that with the 3090, lowering the PCIe speed to Gen3 made it more stable than Gen4, so I’m unsure why this is happening. I removed the NVIDIA driver via Device Manager and during the reinstall process the screen went black again (it hasn’t been running in five minutes). NOTE: Leaving the GPU on that black screen for five minutes caused the fan to speed up to full power.
