The Ethernet link experiences notable delay issues.
I'm a university student who recently brought my PC home for Thanksgiving. I’m using an Ethernet connection with fast speeds, but I’m still experiencing high latency. My home internet is 1 Gbps, which is better than before and even at school. Watching YouTube in Full HD now causes noticeable buffering, something that didn’t happen before. Other sites also load slowly. I’ve tried restarting my PC, the router, and toggling the network adapter, but nothing worked. The only recent change was reinstalling Windows 11. How can I resolve this?
YouTube slows down due to bandwidth limits rather than just latency. Are you using your ISP’s DNS servers? Using a third-party DNS might force less efficient connections. Did you accidentally enable a VPN, perhaps via a Chrome extension? How did you measure latency? Have you sent a ping from your router to verify it’s over 1ms? Are other computers or devices performing okay? Is this issue specific to your PC?
If drivers, cables, and internet aren't the problem, examine the hardware itself. YT videos slow down due to poor connections, which might happen only if other devices share the same issue—perhaps the CPU cooler slipped during shipping and your processor is running at reduced speeds. If multiple devices are affected, consider using a dedicated Wi-Fi router and turning off the built-in modem's Wi-Fi (many have weak processors that struggle with more than one connection). Also, ensure you're connected via Ethernet; some motherboards include Wi-Fi, but Windows often uses it automatically, especially without a password.
