The Epson scanner is not functioning properly.
Following consistent performance, the Epson Perfection Pro 4990 scanner remains unresponsive, not emitting any blue light. Possible causes include a faulty power supply or malfunctioning switch? (Windows 10, Ryzen 7)
Verify the plastic "lock slider" at the rear and beneath the lid. Ensure both are in the unlocked state. If it's a film scanner, confirm there is a short cable connecting the lower section to the lid. Ensure the cable is properly connected. Some scanners might appear unresponsive (seemingly dead) until reactivated by software commands. Check if the software is functioning correctly, verify the appropriate version is installed, and ensure all necessary drivers are present (in Device Manager, there shouldn't be any "unknown device").
Thank you for your thoughtful contributions, which are all reasonable ideas. I also spoke with a friend who works as an artist and has deep knowledge of the challenges posed by old scanners and printers. She shared a tale about her expensive Epson 10000XL that unexpectedly stopped working and showed no signs of functioning. Without a clear explanation, it suddenly came back to life after a few days and operated normally again. Inspired by this unexpected turn of events, we moved the scanner back to its position and reconnected all the cables before turning it on. Surprisingly, it was revived just as I was about to move it to the computer junkyard in the basement for parts recovery. Lesson learned: even when hardware appears completely inactive, it may still be recoverable.
