Hello everyone.

Following an extended period of inactivity with my computer, I recently started Skyrim Special Edition.

Initially, I’m experiencing significant stuttering and freezes when navigating or moving—it appears to be caused by the new environments and numerous objects requiring loading.

I've attempted all recommended solutions from other users facing similar issues: disabling VSync, enabling it, deactivating mouse acceleration, utilizing windowed borderless mode, and lowering graphics settings; however, the problem continues.

Despite acknowledging my PC’s limitations, I previously ran Skyrim on high settings with excellent frame rates on this exact machine! Furthermore, games like Bioshock Infinite consistently performed at high settings without any stuttering or lag.

My system specifications are as follows:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB
2x 1GB DDR2 RAM
120 GB of storage remaining out of 250 GB
Minimal CPU, memory, or disk usage; no apparent leaks.

Although not a powerful system, I previously ran Skyrim flawlessly on high settings. Perhaps due to the enhanced textures of Special Edition and my prior experience with the original release, but I don't believe this is the primary cause as movement causes issues.

Notably, I’m using an outdated graphics driver for my GPU. AMD suggests updating from version 15.301.**** to 16.60.**** However, clicking “install” only installs Catalyst Control Center, and selecting "update driver" redirects me to AMD's website to reinstall Catalyst Control Center – frustratingly. Nevertheless, I don’t believe the driver is the source of the problem given its relatively current version.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

The specifications of your computer are below the necessary minimum for the deluxe version.

According to this article from PC Gamer – https://www.pcgamer.com/skyrim-special-e...originals/ – the dramatically improved textures and loading new areas while navigating with the mouse are causing performance issues on your computer.

I hadn’t realized Special Edition demanded so much processing power! Thank you. I plan to explore Classic Skyrim (Oldrim) and share my observations here afterward.

EDIT: Regarding any questions about whether I investigated before purchasing Special Edition;

My research indicated that SE is a more demanding game, but it's also notably more stable and efficiently designed, leading me to try it out.

Thank you, mgallo, for the accurate response! The limited-edition version proved excessively demanding for my computer, while standard Skyrim is operating smoothly.
