Hello, I've been using a type c to ethernet adapter for internet access to my laptop, since it doesn't have a built in ethernet port. I regularly use the Wake On LAN magic packet to wake my laptop & it worked for a year. I woke up 2 days ago and found that wake on lan is no longer working. So I did some digging, found that the driver got replaced. Checkout this image: `Realtek® USB GbE Family Controller` is the new one, `ASIX AX88179A USB 3.2 Gen1 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter #2` is the old one. It seems the new one does not support wake on lan, as I went to Device Manager and checked all WOL related settings of the driver. Wake on LAN magic packet was enabled, but still, it didn't work. There also seems to be no way of switching back to the old driver. I uninstalled the new one, but when I disconnected and reconnected the usb ethernet adapter, the new one got installed. No option in control panel too to switch to old adapter, it just says network cable unplugged for the old one. At this point, I'm not sure what to do to get back wake on lan again. Any suggestions?

Download the newest Realtek driver directly from their site. It probably offers better features than what you find in Windows Update.

Adjust the network card information in Device Manager. Check if WOL is turned off under the Realtek Driver settings.

The process of removing and reinstalling the driver, followed by a restart, has restored WOL functionality. I verified this over two days to confirm stability. Appreciate your patience—I was concerned about the initial setup being so complicated.
