In Windows 11 I relocated my documents folder to another location. Everything transferred without issues. After restarting, everything seemed normal. My username is "skrippi" and the path was set to "C:\Users\skrippi". Now when I access the Users folder, only "C:\Users\Documents" appears. Inside that folder, it looks like my user directory has changed to "Documents". This is confusing because moving the Documents folder now results in an error saying it can't move because it's its own parent. What should I do? Is there a way to adjust the registry settings? If I type the path "C:\Users\skrippi" into the explorer, it still works and navigates directly to the new Documents folder. From outside my user account (like in a Linux rescue environment), the old "skrippi" user folder under Users is visible. I hope this clarifies what you're experiencing. Or maybe creating a video would help?
I made this mistake completely by accident. I mistakenly placed the pictures folder in the documents folder instead. I had no other option but to do a full reset because I couldn’t get it to move again.
I resolved the issue by editing the registry. Navigate to: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders. The folder named "Personal" should hold "%USERPROFILE%\Documents". It appears the "%USERPROFILE%" was missing initially. I corrected it and the problem is fixed now.
