The display turns off and the computer becomes unresponsive
Hey! I hope everyone is alright. I'm reaching out for advice on some problems I'm experiencing with my machine. Last week I purchased the GPU (a 1060 6GB model) and several odd issues have arisen. The first was performance drops in World of Warcraft—FPS would spike but never reach a stable number, no matter how I adjusted the settings. Even after improvements, it still felt sluggish. The second issue is more concerning: when I press Alt+Tab, the main screen goes black while other parts of the PC work for a few seconds before freezing completely and requiring a reboot. Sometimes it happens randomly, especially when using certain tools without Alt+Tab, which is quite puzzling. I've tried reinstalling drivers, using DDU to clear everything, and even installed Adrenalin 22.5.1 in the hope of fixing things, but Windows still updates my drivers and breaks the AMD components. My system specs are: Ryzen 5600X, Asus TUF X570-PRO, WiFi 4X, 8GB DDR4, 3600MHz, XFX 6800 XT, Core i7, 1TB NVMe SSD, PCI-E 4.0, 7200RPM HDD, EVGA 650W Titanium PSU, plus fans, LED strips, and a VGA holder. I'm looking for any suggestions, tips, or fixes. Usually, when I have to restart, I can't get clear error messages that point out the problem, which is really frustrating. Thanks!
Yeah, I had one cable for each port. In general I saw ppl saying a 6800 XT could work without any issues with a 650W PSU. And what confuses me the most is that this errors don't happen while playing. Other errors happen during that (or when AMD Freesync is on) but that ain't important rn.
Recent updates on bios are available. The latest chipset drivers have been successfully downloaded from AMD.
Check the newest chipset updates from AMD and the latest official BIOS versions. Also consider whether this problem seems typical for PSU issues or if it points to another cause.
The PSU problems cause shutdowns, restarts, power drops, screen glitches, and system activation issues. Have you checked if MultiPlane Overlay is turned off?
Maybe this scenario isn't connected to PSU problems. Or it could just be a clear illustration of what’s happening. I haven’t seen any shutdowns, reboots, restarts, power drops, or issues with turning the PC on or off. The display shuts down sometimes, then the computer freezes. And honestly, I’m not sure what that means.
It's interesting I upgraded my PSU just in case the previous one was bad. After playing Cyberpunk 2077, my FPS improved. Still, I'll keep testing more games and see if this repeats. Concern about MPO is real—I read a bit but found only some strange registry changes. The biggest change so far is the GPU, which is brand new. It's a bit confusing, honestly (thanks for your patience!).
