Hello, I just changed my CPU cooler and added fans to my PC. The fans are PWM and linked together. After reseating the GPU, it shows up in hwmonitor when I turn on something heavy. When I force shut it off and then power it back on, it works fine. This keeps happening. I’m confused—what should I do? (i7 10700 rtx 4070 with updated drivers)

Absolutely unusual! Were you trying to ask about the "can't see it in hwmonitor" or are you actually observing something? In HWMonitor do you notice temperatures spike during intensive tasks? If the thermal paste wasn’t applied correctly, the effects you’re seeing might be possible. Generally though, modern systems limit CPU performance to maintain safe temperatures or power down completely—rarely causing a full freeze. Make sure everything is properly seated and run a test before closing the case. Also monitor the temps to confirm this isn’t the main problem. Could you clarify what components you changed? For example, did you switch from air cooling to liquid cooling?

I notice the GPU is visible in hwmonitor, and the RGB remains active even when the screen goes dark.

Confirming your points. Have you observed a significant rise in temperatures during these events? Which cooling method replaced the previous one?

peerless assassin 120 se argb (rgb headers are disconnected and 5 pc fans p12 arctic pwm pst are linked together and then to the motherboard, with 2 more on the opposite side and also connected to the board. I’m currently testing my PC without the fans, and it seems to work fine, so maybe the fans are the issue. Thanks a lot for your help—it really matters to me)

It seems the single header might be too strong for those fans. I haven't seen anyone pushing it excessively, though it's possible. A quick check suggests five fans drawing around 0.8 amps each, but since they're not all on the same header, it shouldn't be an issue. If you want to test them again, you can eliminate the chance that something fixed by accident was the cause.

I don't know, I unplugged the two front fans and everything works. That's strange because in the back there are three with the same header. I'm trying to isolate the issue by using just one fan now, but it's 2:30 a.m., so I'll probably postpone an update until tomorrow. Thanks!
