Hey everybody, so I've been having this issue with my disks: For some reason, sometimes after a while, one of my disks would start to have hiccups (here is a recording of how it sounds: https://voca.ro/18WVegBWZMoQ ) After a while of, what I assume is, attempting to read the disk, the process stops, and doesn't let me access the disk's content. At first I thought it was an issue of the disk, but then I tried connecting it to a SATA to USB adapter like this one, and the disk worked fine: Decided to go forward and instead of connecting through usb just directly connect to the mobo with the SATA cable, and i'd feed the disk with electricity from outside the PSU, and it worked just fine. What this ended up leading to is that the OTHER disk would start having this issue. So I'm not really sure why this is happening. It's not what I'd consider a "PSU Issue", since the wattage being consumed would be less than when the other disk is connected to it. It's not a "Disk Issue" either, because the disks work fine in the end and the issue either goes to one disk or the other. It's not a "BIOS Issue" either because, even after updating it, which I thought would do the trick, after about two weeks the issue started to creep in again. So I don't really know what the issue would be here. Any advice is appreciated. Below is info about my computer. I’ll consider that. I also want to note the extra messages during the boot process after switching to Ubuntu. Could be helpful information, so I’ll grab some additional cables tonight.
Do you have another disk to test if it has the same problem? (This refers to a disk that was never connected to your computer). You might want to look into BIOS settings and see if any sleep configurations apply to your disks or SATA ports. You can also check within Windows, but since Linux is also showing errors, the issue could be deeper. Back up your important files and consider erasing partitions on your disk, then reformatting it. Is this happening with an SSD as well? As another user mentioned, you could try a different power supply unit—it’s straightforward and might resolve the problem. Good luck!
I don't believe the idea was about formatting. It seems like a disk problem from a year ago when I bought another drive, and the same issue persisted with the new one. By then, I might have taken the PC to a repair shop since I didn’t have other PSUs and the one I had was faulty, causing GPU crashes. It feels strange because after updating the BIOS, the disks functioned well for about two weeks, but now they’re acting up again.
You might want to test different BIOS versions. The previous one serves as a good beginning. Avoid discussing the ChatGPT topic...
