You're facing an issue with the firmware update for your DIR-890L router. The "Firmware Upgrade Failed" message appears during the installation of DD-WRT's custom firmware. Some users have tried using older stock firmware as a workaround, which you've already attempted. You've also checked multiple versions from the official DD-WRT site. If you need further assistance, consider searching for guides specific to your router model or reaching out to community forums for more targeted help.

I needed to update an older DDWRT version on my Dir835. Are you also checking the peacock discussion for guidance?

However, I did manage to understand it now. Installing the custom firmware required entering the firmware recovery mode, which isn't available on the router's IP page.

Great, you solved it! For future reference, check the Peacock thread on the DDWRT forums—it covers installation steps well. You likely needed to perform the 30-30-30 reset to enter recovery mode. Also, explore WiKi since it offers many features with DDWRT.
