I wanted to share my experience switching from an 8700k to a 9900k while using a Z370 board. Initially, I faced very high CPU temperatures even with full cooling. Despite running at stock speeds, the CPU was throttling and reaching over 95°C. After nearly panicking and considering a memory upgrade, I discovered a newer BIOS update that resolved the issue. Now I’m comfortably at 77°C with a 79°C core temp during stress tests at 5.0x clock speed and 1.33V. My board is an MSI Z370 SLI Plus. If anyone is struggling with temps on a Z370, check for the latest BIOS version—it made all the difference. Happy upgrading and stay cool!
I don’t focus on long-term stuff, I jump into computer bits quicker than my family does with toilet paper. Right now my builds are hitting the 6-7k range.

I’ve noticed that both MSI and ASUS BIOS can make a noticeable impact. They use quality capacitors and strong VRMs, especially on the SLI Plus board, and I think they perform better than the Z390 Tomahawk VRM though—I might be mistaken. Thanks again!

I’ve seen MSI BIOS significantly improve performance, just like ASUS BIOS does. They use excellent capacitors and strong VRMs on the SLiP Plus, and I think they outperform the Z390 Tomahawk VRM though—though I might be mistaken. All the best!
