We were chatting about our systems, and I’m using Win7 Ultimate 64-bit. He recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 about five months ago. He says everything feels more stable and runs better for gaming, and he actually uses some of the newer apps. I asked a few friends, and opinions are split—some think it’s just a matter of preference. One suggested upgrading if it makes sense, while others say it’s not worth the hassle. I’m not concerned about the cost; I’m focusing on overall value and how it’s being used. Win7 has its charm, but it’s becoming outdated, whereas Windows 8.1 seems to have many improvements fixed. Any suggestions or thoughts?

It seems you prefer acting instead of discussing.

I quickly adapted to the change from Windows 7 to 8.1, and it felt natural right away. I rely heavily on the Metro apps—many games, useful tools, and even the weather app.

It's not worth $100 dollars. Just wait for windows 9. Edit: Don't get me wrong. Windows 8.1 is decent, but again, not worth $100 dollars.

I’m really anxious about this because I put in a lot of effort to move down from 8 to 7, and now I’m stuck at 8.1. I’d really like a stronger motivation to upgrade.

I've heard from some friends that the metro apps are actually quite good, not just the basic ones like photo viewers. There are also apps such as Pandora that function well on desktop, similar to Widgets. I reassured them not to worry because my device is an OEM with Windows 8, and upgrading to 8.1 is free.

You're currently using Windows 7 Ultimate. Switching to Win8/8.1 isn't really beneficial for you right now. I attempted the change but it limited your control over folders, making them even more restricted. The interface now feels monotonous with a single color theme, which was a big change from the previous version. I encountered problems where essential programs like my email client, ATI control panel, Logitech games, and audio software wouldn't even start. I had to restart multiple times just to get them running, often without success. That was the main reason I decided against the upgrade. While I could tolerate some of the changes, this version was a dealbreaker for me. The only positive aspect I remembered was the improved task manager in Win8/8.1.

The item is priced at £13, making it a reasonable investment.

You mentioned $100? That seems different from what I found.

My Windows 7 came from a friend's copy, while my Windows 8 was installed on an OEM PC last year. That's the situation.
