He talked about a newer video where someone suggested using a Wi-Fi-only device instead of a router for better performance. It seems the idea is to focus on Wi-Fi only, which might be useful for a friend with a garbage router and a large yard. I’m interested in exploring this further and checking what people call such devices.

Wireless access points are the standard solution. Adding a few APs connected via wired Ethernet can significantly improve performance in medium to large homes. Typically, I recommend entry-level models from Ubiquiti and TP-Link. Recently, Wendell from L1Techs mentioned Engenius as an alternative option.
