He set up his first desktop recently and it’s been a great experience. I visited the computer shop today to purchase a new Wi-Fi card, but while I was there I bought him an SSD instead of a hard drive. After getting home, I installed the SSD and noticed he can boot straight from it without Windows. I’m trying to launch Windows in BIOS but it doesn’t appear on the hard drive. Could the SSD not be compatible with his motherboard? His hard drive isn’t showing up in BIOS even after installation. How can this issue be resolved?

Using a PCIe m.2 slot removes two SATA connections from the motherboard. Verify the drive isn’t connected to any of those ports.

Plugging your hard drive into a SATA 3 port should generally function properly, but compatibility depends on your specific hardware and system configuration.

3 and 4 are noted as not available with a PCIe M.2 slot.

I connected the HDD SATA to SATA 1 and the system started up with Windows on the HDD. Now the SSD isn’t showing up in disk management.

Check the BIOS settings for any warnings about a unified drive. When accessing Disk Management, did you encounter a notification regarding a single drive?

No alerts in disk management, I haven't reviewed it in the BIOS yet. EDIT Also not in the BIOS.
