This morning, several complaints came in from my colleague about being unable to connect to the office WiFi. It seems most use Dell Wireless Adapters, which I suspect might be a Broadcom product experiencing issues. They simply refuse to join any wireless network—our office, phone hotspots, or even their homes. Every time they try, they get 'Can't connect to this network.' The Microsoft Troubleshooter only flags the router check. No recent updates or reports about this problem. A few HR staff are pushing for a fix, and fortunately we have a LAN port that can temporarily link their laptops. However, they must move around since meetings are held in separate rooms with limited LAN access, making this workaround insufficient.

I've already attempted: restarting the system, but the issue remains - trying to reset Winsock, still no success - resetting netsh, continues to fail - restarting net services, problem ongoing. I haven't tried uninstalling the driver yet. My guess is a driver problem from Dell or firmware issues, possibly just the signature expiring today. It seems Windows 10 is causing trouble, but no matches found so far.

It seems like a Windows Update issue might have affected the wireless settings, possibly forcing an unsupported encryption method on the card.

I understand. Typically, we receive updates from our dedicated Windows Update server, and I haven't approved any updates in the last two weeks. There might be a chance, but I'm still reviewing. I'm now attempting to uninstall the driver to test its functionality.

This extends to DW1506, a wireless card with a mini PCI-E port for laptops from 2012 to 2014. I believed it applies only to M.2 adapters.

Have you attempted to restart the APs or wireless routers?

They simply won’t connect to any WiFi at all. It’s unclear what caused the issue. It might help to test one of the devices and reinstall Windows, or reformat the drive. Just a note—uninstalling the driver didn’t resolve the problem, and the basic driver also didn’t work well.

The problem began recently and involved multiple clients using different adapters. It seems the issue may lie with your access point. If a particular client is running specialized hardware, the fault could be on the client side, though the AP isn't entirely out of the question. I've encountered unusual behavior before—like a driver update for Broadcom NICs causing 2.4GHz roaming and difficulty troubleshooting. Initially, a vendor had to provide a custom driver from the tablet manufacturer to resolve it. Typically, 5GHz works well, but switching to 2.4GHz made things much harder. You might consider restricting the AP to operate only on 2.4GHz or creating a custom SSID for that band. Also, be aware of available exploits that interfere with Wi-Fi networks using inexpensive devices—such tools can block connections for all devices, not just specific ones.

22nd June 2022. Six machines failed to connect to any WiFi network. Tested both 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels. All devices used the same Dell Wireless Adapter (different models, Qualcomm Atheros Y9108, Dell Wireless 1540 – likely Broadcomm). I'm checking other sources for additional problems. To date, Dell hasn't reported any issues with this model or any of its wireless adapters. My office WiFi was mostly on 2.4GHz except a few areas using 5GHz. Windows couldn't establish a connection even with mobile hotspots from various phones, from 3G devices to the newest 5G models. Hmm... I see. But it seems this is the only case so far. Only Dell Latitude E6X40 and Latitude 3570 with the same adapter are affected.
