The Dell Precision 7510 laptop fails to boot unless the memory is removed?
Hello, I've been working on laptops for years and always believed a laptop wouldn't boot without memory. A friend gave me this laptop to fix—it had lights on the power button that would come on and then turn off without any boot or other indicators. After removing both memory sticks, it started booting and worked perfectly, still showing the 32 GB of memory I had taken out. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? I tried booting with just one stick, but it also showed the white light on the power button turning off without a boot. Thanks for the help!
It then has to have on-board RAM, soldered directly to MoBo.
Or, somehow, utilizes only pagefile.sys on OS drive as a RAM. But that's unlikely, given the nature of pagefile.sys. But would explain why you see 32GB of RAM, because pagefile.sys is usually configured as same size as physical RAM.
Then, there's possibility of modified BIOS;

Precisions usually stores data in two places on the motherboard (front and back). Refer to the guide: https://www.dell.com/support/manual...ce...8adf7a5fa5&lang=en-us
Adding more memory might cause compatibility problems with what's already there.
