The Dell PC isn't detecting my microphone?
My Dell Optiplex 3060 Desktop PC has a 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack, but when I plugged in a microphone, the PC doesn't recognize it (Device Manager lists headphone). I tried using Audacity to record from the mic, but it shows no recording device. How can I make the PC recognize the microphone?
Which prebuilt form factor are you using?
I connected a microphone to it.
What is the make and model of the microphone?
If you follow this manual:
https://dl.dell.com/content/manual4...p-...uage=en-us
it is intended for the Tower version of the Dell OptiPlex 3060. The front panel audio port is a single unified port, suitable for analog headsets used with phones or a 3.5mm 4-pole TRRS jack.
I launched Audacity to capture from the mic but it reports no recording device.
Have you verified that the appropriate audio drivers are installed for the prebuilt? Which operating system are you using?
If your microphone output isn't showing up in the right spots on a 4-pole 3.5mm Tip Ring Ring Sleeve jack plug, you won't receive any sound from your mic on your Dell computer. A 2-pole or 3-pole 3.5mm connector on the mic cable is unlikely to work with your PC.
Does your Logitech microphone include a 4-pole TRRS plug that's fully compatible with your Dell system? Unlikely.
If the microphone doesn't use a TRRS jack, you'd have to use an adapter or modify the existing plug by cutting it and soldering the correct pins onto a new TRRS connector.
CAUTION: Doing this could void your Logitech warranty, so handle the connection carefully.
You'll require two drivers, which should install automatically when Windows identifies your hardware.
1). Audio playback driver
2). Microphone recording driver
If Windows fails to recognize your microphone due to an incorrect jack plug (making it invisible), the operating system won't install a mic driver.
TLDR: It's likely you're using the wrong 3.5mm plug, so it isn't properly connected.
You can utilize an adapter such as this to link your present microphone with your Dell system:
