The Dell laptop running Windows 11 fails to start after a recent RAM upgrade.
I bought a Dell InPiron 16 7620 2-in-1 recently for my programming course. During use, I ran out of RAM. I added two 16GB DDR3 3200MHz sticks from Sodimms. Installing them in my Dell laptop caused it to black screen. I tried using RAM from an ASUS laptop, which worked fine. I also used the genuine ASUS RAM in my Dell laptop, but only original sticks functioned properly. Is there a restriction Dell has on their devices to block upgrades?
Hello there! Insipron laptops generally fall into the more basic range—they aren’t built for top-tier performance parts. You might run into issues with high-speed RAM like 3200MHz; consider going with a lower frequency instead, perhaps around 2400MHz.
Record the voltage of your RAM. High-end laptop RAM typically runs around 1.35V, though not every laptop can handle more than 1.2V. If you have access to your BIOS, examine the settings there. If unavailable, verify the supported memory type and search for 1.2V RAM options. While it might seem like RAM types are interchangeable, they aren't especially true for performance-oriented chipsets.
The voltage is being asked about again. Keep in mind, speed isn't the only factor; timing and additional options might not work.
Are there any LED patterns flashing on your laptop after installing the new RAM, like two white blinks and three amber flashes? If not, let it operate normally. It might be running memory training mode. The system will restart twice if needed. During this phase, the screen will appear black. The process usually takes 2 to 5 minutes, varying with your device's capacity.
Thanks for your assistance. I managed to purchase another RAM module set and it functioned properly, though I also removed both the coin cell battery and the main power source.
