The Dell Display Management app seems unstable or problematic.
Last week I received my new monitor (Dell U2414H). The setup and driver installation went smoothly, but after roughly three hours the device stopped functioning properly. Initially, both the mouse cursor and keyboard stopped responding. I tried resetting it, but no confirmation screen appeared—only the "Engergiesparen aktivieren" message. Only when connecting via HDMI did it briefly work again (displayport 1.2 enabled in the OSD didn’t help). The screen size became much smaller, requiring adjustments through AMD Catalyst Control Center. Switching to mini-Displayport resulted in a black screen and the same power-saving alert, while other ports showed no connection. After some research, I discovered that certain Dell monitors have DisplayPort issues and the included mini-Displayport cable may be low quality. I ordered a replacement the next day, but it still worked fine. Recently, my PC restarted and displayed the blue login screen from Windows 8.1 without any access. I reset again, switched to mini-Displayport, and it finally functioned properly. However, today I experienced serious delays on the desktop and in Firefox—possibly unrelated to applications. I suspect Adobe Flash might have been involved, but DDM confirmed my monitor was already supported. Anyone else faced similar issues?
I received my U2414H about two months ago. The DDM functions properly for me, but I've only used HDMI so far. I mainly rely on the OSD to adjust settings. Based on your description, it seems like the issue might be related to the cable rather than hardware. The problems you experienced with the old HDMI cable disconnecting suggest checking if the same occurs with your current setup. If you can eliminate hardware issues—such as driver conflicts with the display port (though this is usually Nvidia-related)—you may need to return for a replacement. There was a fix for the GPU concern, so you might want to search for it and try applying it.
I don't have any issues since I uninstalled DDM, Everything works fine now. Not much of a loss, didn't use the features anyway. Just googled a bit more and on a German page someone stated that "Enabled Displayport 1.2 is not supported by DDM". That might have caused those "lags". That nVidia GPU issue doesn't really concern me, I have a AMD R7 260X. I installed DDM 1.20.1450 again with DP1.2 disabled. I was offered to download a newer version but I'll test this one first to see if this might be depending on the version. Waiting for the issues to appear again. I'll upate in ~30min-1h (shouldn't take that long IF the issues appear at all). Edit: Update: No issues whatsoever. Looks like DDM really fucks things up if DP 1.2 is enabled. Great to hear that your issues are fixed. I'll remember the display port concerns when connecting my GTX 970. Thanks!
It seems the setup should be reversed with nVidia GPUs. Enable DP1.2 to avoid the monitor being mistaken for an HDTV, which would limit color options regardless of connection method. This guide could be useful (you found it while searching solutions for your issue): https://pcmonitors.info/articles/correct...-amd-gpus/ A review also notes that even the 780 model displays limited color range when connected via DP.
Great product! It's disappointing when a well-known brand like Dell faces such problems. While my new monitor works perfectly, I'm a bit frustrated because those issues ruin the otherwise excellent user experience. Many people also share similar complaints about Dell monitors online—like broken DP ports, color accuracy problems, and malfunctioning buttons.
