I own an NVMe as my boot disk, an SSD for gaming, and an HDD for videos and photos. On my previous machine I had the same configuration, and when I downloaded a game from the Microsoft Store it would prompt me about where to save it. Now on my new setup it begins downloading Forza Horizon 4 without asking, and I have no clue which drive it’s using or where it will install. It didn’t ask, I looked in settings but found nothing indicating a default choice, just proceeding as if it were downloading for hours at 300mbps (the fastest speed I’ve seen). From what I understand, I’ll need to let it run for a while and then check the installation location. Have others faced this problem? Is there a way to reset the Microsoft Store completely, as if it had never been used, to start fresh? My thought is it might have tried installing Candy Crush or other pre-installed bloat during driver updates or a reboot, which could have caused this issue. I’m not opposed to a clean install, but I just finished all the drivers and updates, and this was my first game attempt—suddenly something strange happened. Appreciate any advice you can offer.

The file should be placed in a folder named "WindowsApps" within your root directory. Accessing this requires administrator rights.

I've been searching for it and it doesn't appear on any of the three drives. The old drive only stores it on the SSD for all the games, but this time it's missing entirely. I checked the disk cleanup and found about 37GB of "optimized installation files," yet the game still isn't loading or showing progress.

This tool helps locate the file but may store it in a temporary directory until the download completes.

Select the game via the right-click menu in the Start Menu > Access the File Directory (or use Properties to open it)

All 75GB are now complete, allowing me to investigate further. So far, nothing appears in the root of any three drives, though it confirms the installation is complete, tested, and functioning. It’s been set up in Settings → Apps → Forza Horizon 4 → Move → Selected SSD, and everything is moving smoothly. We’ll observe the outcome. It looks like the problem may be resolved, but I still can’t understand why it didn’t prompt me about where to download the game. Also, a reset option for the Microsoft Store was found in the Apps list, which might restore everything to its original state so I can try again and see if it asks where to save this time.

Don't have those options, if I right click on the game in start menu I have pin to start, more, and uninstall, under the "more" window, I have app settings, rate and review, and share. From App Settings is where I found the option to move the installed directly to the SSD but that was only after it finished downloading. However, from that same menu in settings I found a reset function for Microsoft Store, so I'm still going to attempt to know what the issue was that caused all of this

Well, the problem seems to have been resolved after moving the game to the SSD and restarting the system. I kept logging in even after trying to reset and reinstall the Microsoft Store. When I opened the app again, everything worked fine. I downloaded Forza Horizon 4 multiple times but still faced the same issue—no clear download destination was provided. It appears that whenever I download games from Microsoft, they require a manual wait for completion before I can install them. I’m planning to reset the whole computer and remove all unnecessary files, then try again. This might be a new feature Microsoft introduced or a glitch caused by a system restart during installation.
