Most major game series now use their own download platforms, which is mostly just a hassle. I tend to purchase from the seller offering the lowest cost, often using CD keys or G2A accounts.

Steam simplifies buying and setting up games, especially with a reliable internet connection. Until now, cloud synchronization hasn’t been highlighted. If a game supports it, your preferences and saved progress are kept online. Even after reinstalling Windows, you can just restart the game without issues. You can also reinstall a favorite title later, and all your keyboard shortcuts remain intact. Enjoy playing on Windows or Linux—just pick the platform you’re using and keep where you left off.

I understand your concerns about performance. The Steam service might add some overhead, but I thought the files contained the necessary code for direct use.
