PC failed after a day of use and again a week later. A repair shop confirmed the motherboard is faulty while other components seem intact. They’re uncertain about the cause or method of failure. The board contains an i5-7500 and a 1060 chipset. The seller claims it’s hard to locate a compatible board and warns against buying second-hand due to questionable pricing. He offered a price for both a new board and CPU, insisting you need both regardless of purchase source. He also mentioned diagnosing issues at your expense, which didn’t seem like he valued your decision. What are your thoughts? I’ve been considering the i3-12100F but am unsure if it suits newer games plus university work.

Just flip the board and CPU to a 12100(f) with a solid b660/h670 setup—it'll be a better choice than that old i5. RAM shouldn't need a upgrade since most boards handle at least 3000/3200 C16. Those 1151 boards are being sold at unfair prices, so I wouldn't recommend buying them.
