I discovered a dual CPU motherboard on Newegg with DDR4 support (Dual Socket E5CPU, LGA 2011, 8x DDR4 DIMM). My worry is whether this socket can handle older DDR3 CPUs. How would such a board work with them?

This is lga 2011 v3 the ddr4 variant and it ONLY supports v3 and v4 xeons or from the i7 5800, 5900, 6800 or 6900 series. This is not compatible with older ones. What will the purpose of the system be? Keep in mind this is a cobbled together board out of leftover parts from the serverside.
