The CSGO FPS experience has restrictions.
Hey everyone, I’m not sure what’s going on with the FPS limiter. It seems the game caps at 300 even after I start commands. Usually I get over 350 FPS in CSGO, but I’ve tried using "fps_max 999" and reinstalling it too. The issue keeps happening, possibly related to the Steam client.
The command sets a benchmark mode with zero values. For launch options, you can force a specific refresh rate using -refresh or adjust it via -freq. Be aware that forcing a refresh can limit frames and may trigger a cap. The fps_max_menu setting is important if testing in the menu interface. Heap size controls memory allocation, defaulting to 14 MB but scaling up to 128 MB depending on your system. Adjust settings to optimize performance.
Sure, CSGO players are pretty intense. As someone who plays FPS on a 144Hz monitor, I haven’t noticed any noticeable changes. It seems like others might think they feel different, but that’s just my perspective. Maybe I’m the one who can’t perceive it, but I stay doubtful.
That's a strong statement. Let me know how I can help you further.
I've mainly heard this from CSGO players, but I didn't intend to offend anyone. I've actually looked into it and tried it myself—though I didn’t notice any change in my experience. I stuck to around 150fps for a week and then went up to 400fps afterward; it didn’t really affect how I saw things. Sorry if this came across wrong. What are your graphics settings? Are your GPU or CPU reaching full capacity? From what I understand, some maps after certain updates have reduced FPS for most players because of texture changes, and if either the CPU or GPU is at 100%, it can cause a bottleneck.
The issue isn't about screen speed alone; it's more about how many frames the hardware can handle versus what the display can show. Higher frame rates don’t always mean better performance if the system can’t keep up. Physical limits like processing speed and memory play a big role, along with mental constraints such as information processing per second. Sometimes what seems correct on paper isn’t what actually works in practice—especially with older game engines or 32-bit limitations.
Engine limits reach a maximum of 1000 frames. I checked the details—default cap is 300, older versions struggled above that by speeding up the game. Fallout 4 has this problem too; you can search for it. To get around the 300 fps limit, enter the command shown. Set fps_max to "0", fps_max_menu to "0" in launch options or in-game. This will put the game into benchmark mode and let it run at unlimited frames per second.
