Hello everyone, today I purchased and installed a 5900x when I opened my PC to check its functionality. To my delight, it worked! However, in the BIOS the CPU temperatures were listed at 60°C, which made me think those were unusually high readings. I unmounted the cooler and added a small amount of thermal paste to ensure proper cooling. After securing it firmly, I remounted the cooler. In the BIOS, the temperature remained around 60°C. When I ran Cinebench or similar applications, my temperatures reached about 70°C during operation but dropped to around 60°C when idle. In Ryzen Master, I noticed that clicking on programs would cause the CPU to rise from 47°C to 58-60°C, followed by a voltage increase to 1.44V, then temperatures and voltage fell back to 1.3-1.27V with readings between 48-50°C. What seems unusual is this voltage fluctuation and temperature change. Is this normal behavior? Should I keep it as is or take action?
It's typical to experience spikes. Starting any process demands more CPU power than most realize. The processor works hard to complete tasks quickly, which causes it to raise its voltage so it can speed up. Around 45-50°C should be suitable for a 5900x at idle, depending on your cooler, room temperature, and background activities. (My setup seems similar.)
I cleaned the thermal paste away without using any alcohol because I didn’t have any on hand, just wiped it off with a napkin and then put thermal grizzly Kryo paste on it. I own a Kraken X53 cooler.
