The CPU indicator lights up first, followed by the VGA light remaining active, but the computer fails to boot.
Hello, I've been experiencing this problem for roughly two weeks. Every time I power on my PC, the CPU indicator stays lit briefly, then turns off, and shortly after the VGA light activates but remains on indefinitely, preventing a proper boot. I previously shared this issue in a post, but since newer posts seem to attract more attention, I'll be asking again.
I've already tried various solutions—resetting CMOS, re-seating the GPU, swapping RAM—but nothing has resolved it. I don't have the opportunity to test component swaps because this is my only build. I also discovered that my old PSU (GAMEMAX VP-600) was a poor quality unit, so I replaced it with a better one in the hope it would fix the problem. Unfortunately, this didn't help, and I'm eager to avoid another costly trial-and-error process.
I'm unsure what might have triggered this issue, as I didn't make any changes the day before the problem began. My system has been functioning normally for about three years now. If anyone has suggestions or fixes I could try, please let me know.
Here are my PC's specifications:
- Motherboard: MSI B450 A Pro
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
- RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz
- GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2060
- Storage: ADATA SU635 480GB & Samsung 870 EVO 1TB
- Power Supply: Corsair RM750e
The VGA appears to be the likely reason for the issue. Because your CPU lacks integrated graphics, the only option would be to replace the VGA connection. This isn't a viable fix, but disconnecting the VGA from the motherboard and power supply, then turning on the PC, will reveal what happens to the motherboard LEDs.
It's unclear what you're asking about fitting something into a second slot. Could you provide more details?
I successfully relocated the GPU to the lower port, but the issue continues.
It looks like the only option is to replace the VGA. A used or inexpensive card or one borrowed from someone could work.
You're likely correct that the GPU is involved, but I'm curious about the root cause. Is it typical for these parts to fail suddenly without warning? I thought the fans were still running, which suggests the problem might be related to how the motherboard communicates with itself.
First of all, I'd like to say thanks to everyone for the support so far, but I'm at a loss for what to do. I don't know of anyone who would be willing to lend me their GPU, and I don't want to buy a graphics card unless it's really 100% unfixable and there's nothing I can do about it. (they are so expensive these days!)
