Hi, I'm troubleshooting a PC issue where the CPU debug light stays on even after a successful boot and test results. The system powers on normally but the CPU light remains active, causing frequent failures to boot. I've upgraded several components—BIOS, motherboard, CPU, and GPU—but the problem persists. The BIOS now supports 5000 series chips. I've noted that a simple power cable swap can trigger a reflash. Any suggestions?
Did you verify that the most recent chipset drivers are installed?
Updated for the board. Boots work properly after a BIOS reflash. I’ll only need to reflash it if the power cable is removed. Might be worth a shot, though the Tomahawk II is just arrived from Amazon.
Really, that doesn't matter much since a battery can lose power or fail just by being stored and it's the same for something placed on a shelf in a warehouse. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage of the battery and if it drops to or below 2.9 volts, replace it. Generally, a fresh 2032 or similar has around 3.0 volts when new, with a slight variation, but as long as it's near 3.0 volts it's okay.
I checked it at the end. The new board swapped the CPU and motherboard but the same problem persisted. The CPU indicator stays on showing failure, though it functions properly after a BIOS update. A BIOS update is required each time you unplug or modify the system or BIOS.
It seems a bit odd after spending a lot of time fixing things, but it makes sense now. I removed the motherboard from the case to check each part and was shocked to see the PC boot normally. I think there might be a short circuit somewhere, but the motherboards look fine and the motherboard shows no signs of damage. I’ve ordered a replacement case, and this H510 model is finally getting the attention it deserves after years of poor case choices. I’m posting to see if anyone else has similar issues and can help.
EDIT: It turns out the problem wasn’t the case itself. The real issue was a failing graphics card. The PC works when the display port isn’t connected, but it won’t boot when it is. I’ve got a new GPU on the way and hope it fixes things. After upgrading almost every other component, I’m a bit hopeful.
