Hey there, I just got an old Xeon from an eBay ad. When I opened it, I saw a hole in the bottom right corner. Anyone know why that might be? A motherboard should come in a few days, so I can't confirm if the CPU is working or not. Hope that helps!

It was typical for the older CPUs I've encountered, not just Xeons. I have no idea why.

It's available on every CPU. Those without it on IHS likely have a space below where the adhesive is applied, often leaving room for ventilation.
