The BIOS has been updated. The laptop I purchased on eBay arrived yesterday. According to my statement, the fan operates and rotates during diagnostics, but it doesn't spin when the laptop is in regular use while overheating.

Hey there, everyone. I've owned multiple thinkpads from IBM for years. My L15 model has been having a problem since the beginning. I prefer running my PCs in maximum performance mode when connected to AC power, but with this particular unit it became risky as it quickly hit 99°C.

As an engineer, submitting a bug report was straightforward for me. Yet Lenovo didn’t take my concerns seriously. Even though "Balanced" mode is active, the CPU still needs to reach 95°C before the slowest fan speed activates.

Some CPUs require a higher temperature to function optimally. But in my opinion, that’s even more extreme.

I think I read your message on Lenovo’s forum and noticed their response was unhelpful. Using it in "forever balanced" mode actually fixed the issue—it wasn’t a slow machine at all.

My BIOS R17ET41W 1.24
Product ID 20U4S85A00
I hope they listen to us!

Hi friend,
Loved hearing about your recent discovery of the "balanced mode" patch! I was planning to sell it for a steal, but found this "fix" instead. Now I'm using it with Windows 11 and wondering if you're on a different system. Also, curious why it only activates in Balanced mode and what settings actually make the fan turn on.
