I attempted to adjust the cooler on my Ryzen 3600, but the backplate came off and one screw hole stayed in place. I'm unsure if I should try to force it back or abandon the motherboard and remove the RAM. It's been a while since I worked on a PC, so I'll need to start over...
The screws are all there, correct? You're worried about loose metal screws under the motherboard, which might lead to a short circuit. Otherwise, removing the side panel should make installing the backplate straightforward, unless your case is exceptionally poor. The holes on the motherboard match the studs on the backplate.
I gently adjust it back once more as long as I don’t need to apply too much pressure to harm the parts on the back of the CPU socket. If I sense a risk, I simply pull the board out, which is annoying but not worth risking the hardware for ease.
Remove the other side panel, then reach for the backplate from that position. You don't have to take off the motherboard unless screws are hiding behind it.
