I removed the spreaders and everything worked out. For the pads, what size should I use?
You probably don’t require the spreaders when using DDR4. The situation changes significantly with DDR5. Finding suitable pad thicknesses for video cards is already challenging, and memory pad thickness will be even more difficult to determine. If you still have the original pads, you can measure them using a micrometer. I’m not sure if anyone has tried this for memory yet.
Many people think heat spreaders are mainly about looks, especially with LPX. Unless you have a premium selection for high-voltage applications, just stick tape can work. If you want better performance or plan to do memory tuning, consider aftermarket options or thermal putty—putting it right is tricky.
Purchase a bundle of 1mm thermal grizzly pads. You'll likely end up with excess, so consider doubling up if it's too thin or gently compressing if it's too thick. It's not necessary for the RAM itself.
I’m not completely certain about “purely.” They can also conceal the actual chips being used, allowing less reliable or weaker components to be included and making it harder for buyers to recognize what they’re purchasing. They are usually extra, which is likely what you intended. I’ve only examined memory purchases without heat spreaders for this reason. This kind of memory is often slow server-grade, so I wasn’t able to implement it successfully. Edited July 11, 2022 by Bombastinator
To conceal the chips, you could use a simple sticker or remove the information entirely.
I understand that, though it’s the reason I painted them. I aimed for them to appear stylish.
