Hello, welcome! I understand you're looking for clearer guidance on installing Windows. It's good you're thinking about preserving your existing data. You mentioned having a WD Blue 1TB HDD with two partitions: one for Windows and programs (100GB) and another for personal files, games, music, etc. When you boot into Windows, the installer will prompt you to choose partitions. You see options like C Drive, D Drive, System Reserved, Recovery, and Unallocated space. To ensure a clean installation without affecting your personal data, you should format the D Drive and possibly the system partition before installing. This way, you can keep your games, photos, and music intact. Let me know if you need more details!

When rebuilding Windows, choose C:\ to reformat only that drive and the setup will proceed normally. Updated March 6, 2019 by Mira Yurizaki

You're currently using Windows 10 Pro but need to try Windows 8.1. Since you don't want to reinstall 10, focus on creating a clean installation of Windows 8.1. Start by formatting your drive as C, then proceed with installing Windows 8.1 without affecting other partitions.

Sure, you're on the right track. From the opened windows displaying the five partitions, (1) choose C Drive, then proceed by clicking Next to initiate the reformatting during installation. That's correct.
