The computer suddenly stops working when you close games.
Hey everyone,
over the past ten days I've encountered some issues with my PC. It tends to freeze after quitting a game, but there are no problems during the actual gameplay. This happens each time I close Assassins Creed Unity on Steam and around half the time when I finish Wolfenstein: The New Colossus on Steam. However, it doesn't occur after I complete Red Dead Redemption 2 on Epic or Hellblade on GOG.
I'm using an external SATA SSD connected via a Sabrent USB 3.0 adapter. All drivers for the mainboard, graphics, and Windows are up to date. Sfc/Scannow shows no issues and the health check passes. I also verified the SSD's integrity through Windows, which reported no problems.
I reinstalled Steam too, but that didn't resolve the issue. My system runs Windows 11 Pro with the following hardware: 7800X3D, MSI PRO B650-P WIFI, Gskill 32 GB PC6000, WD 1 TB SM 770 Black, Powercolor RX 7900 XTX OC Hellhound, XPG Core Reactor 850W.
Appreciate any advice you can offer.
Just checking if you made the same error when you first began using Steam. How do you stop it? Do you press X in the top right or click steam in the top left and then choose close? I wanted to ask this because for years I pressed X in the top right, but when I got a game called satisfactory my PC would just hang and wouldn’t shut down unless I forced a restart. Steam top left then exit is the right method.
I just reread your thread, I was planning to add some games to an external SSD like you do, since my two SSDs are almost full. Forums and the company that built my PC advised against it.
It might take a while, but I’d copy a games client onto the PC’s main drive and install a game that’s been causing issues.
If everything goes well, I’d say the problems are due to your games being on an external drive.
