The computer stops working during gameplay after switching to a new SSD.
Hello, new poster. Please forgive any mistakes from my language. I recently switched my older SATA SSD to a new NVMe SSD (Corasair MP510 500 GB), but this change seems to have triggered computer freezing, restarts, or even BSODs during games. Here are the details:
- AMD RYZEN 7 1700
- Gigabyte x470 AORUS GAMING
- 2x8 GB Corsair at 3000 Mhz
- Gigabyte RX590 8 Gb
- 2x SATA 4Tb HDD [Western Digital RED]
- 1x Corsair MP510 500 GB (main drive with OS and games)
- 650 W 80 Plus Bronze Aerocool power supply
- 2x Dell 1920x1080 60 Hz monitors
- One DisplayPort, one HDMI
Previously I had a 250 GB Samsung SATA SSD and considered upgrading to the new NVMe model. After purchasing, I installed Windows 10 version 1909, Radeon drivers, and Ryzen Master. My BIOS is F40, which isn’t the latest but matches what I used before.
When launching PUBG, the screen would freeze and show a BSOD (within a few seconds after loading). Other games like SWBFII or BFV also crash or freeze, displaying BSODs. The CPU stays below 50°C, and the GPU rarely exceeds 60°C. So it doesn’t seem to be a thermal problem.
If I try launching SWBFII or BFV, the game searches for a match but then crashes again. Even with Chrome open (10 tabs), it freezes each time. I’ve checked temperatures—they’re normal, and my power usage is well within limits. Other light games like LOL run smoothly.
I suspect it’s not related to thermal issues (temperatures never go over 70°C) or GPU problems (LOL works fine). Power issues also don’t seem likely. I’ve exhausted all options except the SSD change, which caused everything to fail.
I work on this machine with SolidWorks, and large complex projects run without issues—CPU usage and temperatures rise as expected. I’ve shared my BSOD report details here, in case you can review them.
Thanks for your help!
Are you asking about reinstalling Windows without connecting any hard drives, or attempting to start the system without using the drives at all?
I'll wait until the weekend for that. I need the computer ready for tomorrow's tasks. I've tried running games on unplugged HDDs from both the PSU and MOBO, but still getting BSOD. Should I reinstall with unplugged HDDs first, or should I clean the drives before connecting? Also, I recently installed Windows 10 with only the SSD connected (both HDDs unplugged), but the issue persists. My latest Windows version and AMD drivers are up to date. When I open PUBG, it crashes with BSOD, but League of Legends works fine. It's strange the problem appears with some games but not others—could a configuration error be causing GPU issues? Checking the Event Viewer shows a Kernel-Power problem 41 (63), though I'm using a desktop, not a laptop, so I'm unsure how to fix it.
After reinstalling and linking the HDDs, the issue persists. It's unclear what to do next.
