Hey there, welcome to the forum! I just upgraded to Windows 11 about a month ago and things have been really problematic. Whenever I try to play a game or do anything beyond just browsing, the computer freezes and restarts. The mouse won’t move, and the screen stays blank for a few seconds before turning black and restarting again. I checked online and tried resetting the BIOS, but it didn’t help. My machine is a fairly new model with a 5800X3D graphics card, an MSI B550-A Pro, and a Zotac 2060 Super. I’d really appreciate any advice on what might be causing this issue, especially since it seems to have started after the update.

What are your system temperatures during these events? Have you ensured Windows is fully updated, along with drivers and the BIOS? You might also try tools like Bluescreenview to identify if a specific driver or software is responsible for the crashes.

I'm not sure if the temperatures require downloading anything to verify. I looked over the updates and found none. I'll try bluescreenview and let you know if it works.

Avoid upgrading directly to Windows 11. Perform a fresh installation instead. Restore your GPU drivers for added security. The Nivida installer offers a "clean install" feature. Also, if you recall the setup from when you upgraded Win8.1 to Win10, and it missed updating the kernel, verify the "winver" setting. A Windows 10 build ID indicates you'll need to start from the beginning.

Considering this idea. I'll give it a shot.

I completed three upgrades from Windows 10 to 11 mainly due to the high number of installed programs on workstations. There were no issues, and all computers have operated smoothly for more than a month. None are used for gaming.

I've experienced dozens of issues in Win7/8.1→Win10 over the past few years, and a handful of 10→11 ones too. So far, only occasional problems have popped up. I'm not claiming it's common, but enough have happened to make backing up a priority. If mistakes are possible, I don't feel the need to risk it.

NovaBackup operates consistently each day to safeguard all work files, and I perform a full system image monthly. The Win 10 backup remains available prior to the upcoming update.
