The computer stopped working suddenly…
Over the past few weeks my computer has suddenly stopped working. No alerts, no power surges at home, just a total shutdown. This usually happens when playing Fortnite or streaming on Discord. Last night I started a new game and think I pressed the wrong key or it froze (like a timeout). I lost all sound, speakers, headphones, and only got a black screen with a very sluggish mouse—took about 40 seconds for a click to register. Even after turning it back on, it’s still stuck on black. I tried restarting multiple times, waiting around two minutes each time, but now the same problem persists: power on, fans spin, GPU lights up, HDD makes noises, but nothing appears. It basically powers off instantly after I press the power button and never restarts or shows any video. It’s like it’s in limbo. I also play a few other games like Rust, Rainbow6, Lethal Company, CS2, and sometimes Brawl. My system specs are: Ryzen 5 2600, RX 5700XT, 16GB DDR4 RAM, Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSD (1TB). This SSD is the latest addition to my setup.
The issue began quite some time ago. You might want to suspect a faulty SSD or a Windows-related problem. It’s best to create a live ISO on a flash drive using Linux Mint, and consider using Ventoy to simplify the process, then test it to see if it resolves the matter.
Began four weeks prior, became fully unresponsive last night. Placed it overnight and the problem persists. Unable to reach BIOS settings to access the boot menu.
What's your motherboard? I think you should take it apart. Begin with the simplest parts. Put the motherboard inside a cardboard box and place the main board (the MBOX works well) in front of the CPU. Use a single stick of RAM, GPU, and the CPU to see if it boots. If it doesn't, try adding another stick of RAM in the next slot. Keep testing all slots until it starts working. If it still won't boot, swap each component one at a time with what you have available.
I'll attempt these actions. This setup has served me well for more than two years, and I haven't encountered any problems until recently. Probably the PSU or GPU gave out last night.
