I experienced problems while playing World of Warcraft (WoW), especially during certain battles where my graphics would intermittently fail but the computer kept running. This happened again the previous night, just after a full crash. After the crash, my PC wouldn’t start up properly; fans would activate, USB ports would light up but not function, and once I unplugged the graphics card, Windows booted but there was no video output from the motherboard. When I switched to using my roommate’s graphics card (2070), it also failed to display anything. I reset the BIOS multiple times, removed the battery, and after some time, the PC worked fine once more—no issues since then. The Event Viewer indicated numerous disk errors around the second crash.

I’m running Windows 10 Home 64-bit but it isn’t updating to version 21H2. My system specs include an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, an EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC, a 32GB DDR4 RAM with XMP enabled, a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD, and a Corsair Vengeance LPX graphics card. The BIOS is set to F10 since late 2019, so an update would be necessary. However, I can’t install it without a USB drive, which is limiting. My current drives are outdated, and I’m unsure if the problem stems from outdated drivers, BIOS, or WoW’s general instability.

I’m concerned about continuing to use my PC, especially for WoW, given the frequent crashes and disk errors. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Note: I mostly play in 4K, though performance isn’t top-tier. WoW runs smoothly at 1440p with stable FPS, and I’ve had this setup for about two years, with only one similar incident recently. The GPU is around five years old and hasn’t caused major issues.

Edit: I play most games in 4K, but don’t have stability problems. WoW is one of the few I run at 1440p for consistency and FPS. It’s been running this configuration for two years, with only a brief crash once. The GPU is nearly five years old and still performing adequately.

It seems the issue might not be related to the driver or BIOS, especially since it only occurs in one specific battle. Updating your GPU driver should work fine without any major consequences. To confirm whether the problem is resolved after the update, you’ll need to replay that battle. Also, have you checked your disk for any issues yet? Samsung offers a tool for this purpose.

I just set up Samsung Magician, which appears as a drive management tool with a diagnostic scan tab. It doesn’t seem to work on my drive. After running "chkdsk C: /F /R" before posting, I’m unsure what the results show. I’ll try again but the game won’t let me join the Mythic version without the same group of players who were stable last time.

It looks like the issue might not be WoW itself, but rather a hardware problem with the CPU, motherboard, or RAM or storage drive. You've noticed drive errors, so it's best to clear or reformat the drive, then reinstall Windows and your software.

You might want to look into HDD Sentinel. If it relates to the WoW side, a quick Google search could help. Otherwise, consider using any integrity-check methods Blizzard offers.

Replace the old, group-regulated power unit, then proceed with troubleshooting. If the problem persists, continue checking.

Displaying strong performance with 95% health on my SSD. This setup uses only 5% of the reserved spare space instead of dealing with bad sectors, as detailed in the report. For more details, you can check the link provided. The system's health is based on specific S.M.A.R.T. attributes, and the TRIM feature is active for best results.

This seems unlikely to cause problems. You plan to upgrade your GPU soon, and you haven’t experienced any issues with other games, even tougher ones like Borderlands 3.
