Hey there! A week ago I added a 1TB Kingston M.2 NVMe SSD to my PC. Since then, my system has had three strange episodes where everything seems to freeze and the fans spin wildly, but I can still hear audio coming from it. After turning it off and back on, it worked perfectly. Now it’s happening again without any clear cause. The other components I have are: i5-12500F, TUF B660M-E D4, and RTX 4070 SUPER. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Remove the SSD and check it out. It seems to be the most straightforward test right now because that’s the primary factor that changed. Did you also take out the GPU during the SSD installation? A re-seat the components plus cables might help, but at that stage just remove the SSD.

Absolutely, I should note that I omitted the GPU during installation. Regarding the SSD performance, it will likely take a few days to confirm the outcome, so I’ll return with the findings later.

Which power supply unit do you have? Track GPU hotspot temperatures.

Blackscreen GPU fans are spinning occasionally with some sound still audible, though video output remains absent. Possible causes point to a GPU issue, as mentioned by @jaslion regarding removal of the GPU for M.2 access. It seems the GPU placement or insufficient power cables might be the problem. If not resolved yet, consider following @jaslion’s recommendations.

You're using a 4-pin + 12-pin connector that's getting hot and losing connections. The solution is to use a cable with a stealth sense cable, which connects the pins securely and prevents them from expanding.

The power supply or cable is likely the cause. The display will turn off completely, and the fans will start spinning at full speed when a driver fails due to power delivery problems.

The fix came after updating the GPU, replacing the SSD, and reconnecting all power cords. Appreciate the help!
